Hoppy Road App

Hoppy Road and the project Hoppy for Life aims to covertly provide support to people in abusive environments, seeing as the ongoing pandemic has given rise to a greater proportion of domestic abuse. The app imitates a Crossy Road/Subway Surfers knock-off game, with a frog and nature aesthetic. By disguising itself as a knock-off, this will hopefully deter any suspicion from potential abusers even if they know of the game, since there are many different knock-off games in the app store.

When first opening the app, the user is prompted to make a ‘key’ by swiping in a minimum of four directions and maximum of eight directions. This ‘key’ combination of swipes is what gives the user access to help commands. The swipes can also be dragged from edge to edge to make things faster.

After setting up the key combination, the basic game loads in and is playable. The basic tutorial on how to play is presented. After completing the tutorial, the app prompts the user to lose the game. The end screen animation will appear and provide time for the user to enter their key combination, which the tutorial tells them to do. When losing the game, tree leaves will close over the screen so as to prevent any possible triggers in the frog character representing the game loss.
